A terrible Night !

posted 25 Sep 2012, 23:24 by Evert Bez
Last night started of good but quickly turned into a 5 hour ordeal ....

I marked the Arms ....Arm 1 going Counter Clock Wise ...

Put these plastic end caps on the arms  ...

CD/DVD Case clear plastic Cover modified to fit ...

The wire you see is in wrong ...green should be to the right ...

Ready for first power up ...The JR XG8 is new , My first 2.4 ...and a learning curve of note ...Last Transmitter was a JR 2610 which I still have ...7 years of service ...35 Mhz.

Why I mention this XG8 is that and hour was spend on something really simple ...(sigh)

And the ordeal Starts ....The XBEE needs a drive , downloaded it but Windows7 does not detect it...The laptop comes with Windows Starter ...I don't mind . it's dual booting Ubuntu my preferred operating system ...The fact is though, my Desktop PC detected and installed the Driver / Com ports with no problem ( Windows7 Pro)

I ended up getting this to install the Com port software , Yes , it's an exe , and it's clean ...no Virus ...This seem to have worked but I must still test or confirm all okay ..

From here things went south ...badly ....no power on Distribution board = Deans Plug ...Weird !

Cant find bind plug for receiver , read up and made my own one ...Signal to Ground ...Got receiver to bind ...Test with Servo ...No movement ...after a while turn plug around ...IT works ...wtf ...normally ground is to the bottom ...not so with 831 JR receiver ...HUH ?

Then the APM board not powering the receiver ...aaahhh hang on, the Throttle (Pin 3) give power to the receiver ..., next test motors ...oh yeah , got to arm it first ..They run except one that is not happy ...End of evening ...will sort that one out later ...PHEW !!
