433mhz 1/2 wave Dipole Antenna for 3DR Radio ...

So the rubber duck antenna included with the kit require me to make a large hole in the DVD cover I use ... So after some reading I came across this and decided to do similar and also hopefully increase range of the radio as well ...

The site states to use the this ...

"You need:
Dipole 1/2 wave

  • SMA Pigtail with your desired coax length, the cable I used is RG316
  • Plastic antenna tube (found some made by Reely here in Germany, 380mm long)
  • Two pieces of wire each 200mm long, I used AWG28
  • Hotglue "

I Used a Old Piano wire push-rod with it's sleeve and on the Ground Side I used an old reciever Antenna wire ...


Mark the center on the antenna tube and use a solder iron to make a small hole in the tube right at the center. Do not cut the tube in half, this will give a better mechanical stability.
Prepare the open end of the SMA pigtail. Keep the feedpoint cap as short as possible.

As can be seen from the pictures I did a few things differently ... Each to his own I suppose ...

The middle piece is two soft Rubber like pads I glued together to keep the shape of the Dipole ...




As far as putting it on the 3DR Quad ......Using holes thats already in the base plates ...

Doing it this way allow the Antenna to Move should it flip over ...or so I hope it will ...with the hole in the DVD cover the antenna is quite firmly in place ..





Slightly worried about the ground wire running so close to power ...but will have to test ...
